John Baird (1855-1942) was born in Wisconsin and moved to Deadwood, South Dakota, in 1887 and established a telephone company in the Black Hills. He moved to Newcastle, Wyoming, in 1884 and established a mercantile business and later was president of the First National Bank of Newcastle. Baird served as a Wyoming State Senator from 1905-1909 and as Wyoming State Treasurer from 1911-1915. From the description of My father John L. Baird, 1936.
